Types of Courses Available
A traditional face-to-face course uses no Internet technologies. Content is delivered in writing or orally in a completely synchronous environment (same time / same place).
A Web Enhanced course is a face-to-face course that incorporates select Internet technologies to facilitate limited, specific learning activities. Web-enhanced course instructors may use a learning management system (LMS) or web pages to manage classroom learning and to post basic course information such as the syllabus, assignments, and grades.
This type of delivery occurs in real time and allows the instructor to communicate with remote site sections of the class via two-way audio/video. Instructors and students hear and see each other live from each site.
Blended courses are face-to-face courses in which considerable use of the learning management system (LMS) is evident. Blended instructors require assignment completion and increased learner engagement through electronic learning technologies. Blended courses combine different modes of delivery and models of teaching to support different styles of learning while maintaining a traditional instructional approach with a significant portion of required class meetings.
The Southeastern Channel produces and airs telecourses from a variety of
academic disciplines for broadcast on the regional television channel and over the web via "Video on Demand" through the LMS.
Hybrid courses are delivered at least 50% online with the remainder of course meetings being face-to-face delivery. Hybrid courses bring students together only where/when needed, allowing them to engage in asynchronous (anytime / anywhere) learning otherwise. Hybrid instructors typically have a substantial portion of the content and learner engagement delivered online using online discussion forums and other electronic collaboration formats to engage students with the content, other students, and the instructor.
An online course has most or all of the content and learner engagement delivered online. Typically, online instructors have no face-to-face meetings. An appropriate variety of media, Internet technologies and collaboration tools, and instructional strategies are used in a systematic design to facilitate student achievement of learning outcomes.
